Tara Quan – Submissive on the Run

Banner_SubmissiveOnTheRun_TaraQuanI’m happy to welcome back Tara Quan to the Starla Kaye blog. She is promoting her new BDSM book, SUBMISSIVE ON THE RUN.

The Story Behind the Book

Sometimes, supporting characters take on a life of their own. After selflessly aiding in the affairs of others, they sulk in the back of an author’s brain, broadcasting their past, present, and future until surrender is nigh. Thus was the case with Kim Tran, the intrepid dungeon monitor from Submissive on Display. Unbeknownst to the heroine of the first book, Kim has some unfinished business with the hero’s best friend (small world, I know). He insisted I give them a chance to sort things out, and, being a Dom, he has a knack for getting his way.

SUBMISSIVE ON THE RUN drags me back to Las Vegas’s renowned Carnivore Club, a multi-author world first penned by Kate Richards for Decadent Publishing’s 1Night Stand Series. This interracial BDSM romance stars a feisty sub with a strong right hook, who must contend with a spoilt rich boy determined to win her back. An ill-mannered cat and Madam Eve’s matchmaking service unite them for a night of exhibitionistic fun, which ends in a capture game and a scorching happily ever after.

To celebrate my return to BDSM romance this year, I’m giving away a $15 gift card. To enter, leave a comment here and drop your details in the Rafflecopter widget at the bottom of this post. [or at my website: http://www.taraquan.com/submissiveontherun ]

SubmissiveOnTheRun_300x450SUBMISSIVE ON THE RUN by Tara Quan

Obscene wealth and a toxic family taught Joss Bradlee to care about no one. He moved through life in a caustic shell, fending off gold-diggers with his sharp tongue and abrasive personality. But a stubborn submissive saw past his nonchalant act, and he fell hard and fast for a girl he didn’t deserve. When she accidentally stumbled into the line of fire, he moved heaven and earth to protect her, even if it meant letting her go. Ten months later, he ensures her safety and tracks her down, finally ready to claim the one person that matters. The only problem—she wants nothing to do with him.

On the run for close to a year, Kim Tran receives a surprise call from the man who’d put her life in danger. His family hired assassins to kill her, but he’s somehow convinced they still had a chance. With their entire relationship built on a lie, she resists the instinct to sprint straight into his arms. Faced with a social divide no sane person would bridge, she cuts her losses and breaks her own heart. But the Dominant she loves has other plans, and he’s spent his entire life getting his way. Too late to run and with nowhere to hide, she faces an adversary well versed in all her weaknesses.

At the Carnivore Club, two exhibitionists meet for a battle of wills, lured by a one-night stand service, misplaced cat, and several helping hands. With the aid of handcuffs, disciplinary measures, and a capture game, a reluctant sub rediscovers the pleasures of bondage, the thrill of display, and the ecstasy of surrender.

Excerpt 3 (R-Rated) – SUBMISSIVE ON THE RUN

Thrilled and terrified, she swallowed the lump in her throat. “We could get over each other if we tried.”

Imprisoning her with his arms, he trailed his nose down the line of her neck. “How’s that working out for you? On my end, every hot chick I see has your face. One look at your reflection, and bam—instant hard on. Our breather flopped.” He dipped his head lower, scattering kisses along her collarbones. “I’m glad it’s done.”

“No.” Her vision misted with pulses of crimson. She tried to summon an iota of reluctance. Her libido refused to play ball. “We’re not doing this again.”

He bit the sensitive spot between her shoulder and neck. “You don’t have a choice. I’m calling the shots.”

His confidence curled her toes. “What we had was less than a fling.” She poured what little willpower she had into the false words.

He squeezed her breast, the proprietary caress arching her back. “You’re going to pay for that lie with a lot more than a hard spanking.”

Arousal flared, potent and irresistible. “You have no right. I’m not your sub.” When he pinched her nipples, flashes of heat threatened to melt away thought. “But there’s a whole club full of women willing to play your games.”

“I’ve already chosen mine.” She writhed when his grip tightened. In her moment of distraction, he slid his hand under her skirt. With her underwear gone, he could shove his fingers inside her without preamble.

“Joss….” It hurt. In the best way.

He looped his other arm around her. Caught in a vise, she had little recourse beyond a whimpered protest. “I don’t want this.” But she did. Enough to erase the safe word from her vocabulary.

“Dishonesty seems to be a chronic problem.” He pressed down on her clit with his thumb and screwed his digits deeper into her. Her clenching inner muscles supported his observation. So did her uncontrollable spasms as his unyielding penetration vaulted her toward a crest.

She dug her nails into his forearms, a useless defense that only reinforced her helplessness. “Stop it.”

He ignored her resistance, playing her like an instrument until sweat once more coated her skin. “Why? You’re more honest right after you come.”

Romantic Kauai

Waimea Canyon-KauaiLet’s talk about romance…about Kauai. I have visited Kauai several times and love it every single time. Because of that, I knew I wanted to set one of my romantic books on that particular Hawaiian island.

My newest book from Decadent Publishing, SO NOT A WHITE KNIGHT, takes place in Kauai. I even used some of the setting details from the resort which I have stayed at previously. This novella is part of the 1 Night Stand Series.

The following are some places that I consider beautiful and romantic:

  • Waimea Canyon Drive -Driving Highway 50 from Hanapepe to Waimea Canyon to scenic overlook. Turn right at mile marker #23 and drive to near mile marker #18. Vast panorama of the dagger-like green cliffs and deep gorges of the Kalalau Valley.
  • Tunnels Beach – Go snorkeling in the clear, fish-filled water of the lagoon. View the splendid views of the island’s signature peak, Mount Makana.
  • Waioli Hu’ia Church – A charming, green-shingled church established in 1912 in the picturesque hamlet of Hanalei on the North Shore. It is possible to marry or renew your vows in the church.
  • Hanalei Pier – The pier has a panoramic view of the Hanalei Bay and the dramatic ridges of the Na Pali Coast. Located in the hamlet of Hanalei. Grab some take-out food to enjoy while enjoying the view.
  • Na Pali Coast – Sail past it on a catamaran at sunset, with champagne.
  • Limahuli Garden and Preserve – A natural botanical garden in a picturesque valley, backed by Mount Makana. Take a tour, or a self-guided tour, hand-in-hand, to see the terraced gardens with native plants.
  • Lookout in Waimea Canyon State Park – Enjoy a spectacular view of Waimea Canyon, which is nicknamed the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” (The photo above is from my trip there.)
  • Kilauea Point on the North Shore – See 31 acres of rolling green beauty from the tip of the point. Thousands of migratory seabirds, including albatross, rest and nest nearby. Take along a picnic basket and a pair of binoculars to enjoy the view.
  • Eastern Shore (Coconut Coast) – The palm-tree studded shore is the best place to watch the sun rise. Enjoy an early morning run or walk with your special person.
  • Lydgate Beach Park – A beautiful place on the east side of the island with two protected natural swimming pools, spectacular snorkeling, white sand, as well as calm pools for children.
  • Hanapepe – A small historic town filled with art galleries of locally made art and locally crafted jewelry and housewares. The perfect place to spend a leisurely day strolling the galleries, listening to music, and eating at various small restaurants.
  • Ho’opi’I Falls – Take a low-impact walk through a rainforest that leads to two waterfalls along the Kapa’a Stream.

Blurb So Not a White Knight

It’s past time for Essie to break out of the box, to rebel, to live the life she wants and not what everyone else wants for her. Working as a chemical engineer for her family’s oil company isn’t what anyone would call exciting. It pays the bills. But she wants more, in every part of her life. She’s dated men mainly interested in her family. Decent men. Boring men. Except for one man several years back, until he became more infatuated with his business than with her. She left him, and he barely seemed to notice. She’s come to the conclusion she needs a makeover, something to make a man take enough notice of her that all else will pale in comparison. No more blending in, being the wallflower of the world. She’s certain an inner wild woman lies buried within her, and she’s ready to set it free. Next step, have at least one “hot” night with a “sexy beast.”

Bring him on, Madame Evangeline.

It took a while for the truth to slap him in the face, but Trevon sees now that he was an idiot. He got lost in building his Houston architectural firm into one of the most respected firms in the country. He’s played all of the social games, belonged to the right clubs, knows the important people, lived and breathed reaching his goal. But he failed to see the true worth of the woman he allowed to walk away. Essie deserved more than what he gave her. In a unique twist of fate with a matchmaking service, he gets a second chance to prove his worth to her. He damn sure better not screw this up.

Some words from Lola Karns…

I’ve been getting into the holiday spirit. The five weeks or so between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day are the most stressful, fun and romantic time of the year in my opinion. In the spirit of the season, I’m sharing a scene from my Decadent Publishing release, Bad Traveler. The heroine, Gwen, invited her love interest, Kyle, to her home for a quiet New Year’s. EXCERPT – Bad Traveler

“Here.” With the remote in his hands, she sat on the middle of the dusty-sage-colored couch. He settled in near her, propping his feet on the coffee table. He wasn’t touching her. Not yet, but she’d change that and see if his interest from last night remained.

Tucking her feet underneath her on the opposite side from where he sat pushed her weight toward him. His arm came down across her shoulder, pulling her closer. Perfect. As he flipped through channel after channel, she rested her head against his broad shoulder. Warmth radiated off him. The whooshing heartbeat reminded her of the sound of the ocean in a conch shell. If this was as close as she got to paradise, so be it.

She lifted her head to face him. “Although this is too quiet for you, this is a much better New Year’s Eve than I expected to have.”

“I’ve never been one for big, noisy celebrations.”

They resumed an easy silence. She wanted him to kiss her, to make her toes curl like he did last night and every time she thought about him.

“We’re like some old married couple, too exhausted and easily annoyed to go out.” Amused at her own assessment, she chuckled, but stopped herself before continuing the idea aloud. Time would be kind to him. He’d still be sexy. “Of course, my parents have their annual progressive dinner party, and they’ve been married thirty-seven years. Do your parents do anything like that?”

“They go to my uncle’s house in the country. The family gets together, plays games, and then lights off some fireworks. It’s okay, but this is better.”

He touched her cheek with his fingers. Her lips parted in a silent invitation. Were the flames dancing in his green eyes mere reflections of the firelight or desire? Her hand traced the strong contours of his chin. Once, she thought she preferred a clean shave, but the way she craved feeling that stubble on her skin was a sign of how much she wanted him.

His mouth pressed against hers, and the weight of the world slipped away. For once, she stopped thinking about Chloe or her future or her everyday responsibilities. She lost herself in the warm yumminess of his kiss. His tongue explored her contours and eagerly returned the favor. As his fingers roamed across her arms and entwined themselves in her hair, her body became an electric circuit board going haywire.

Still holding her close, he broke their kiss. His forehead and nose touched hers. His warm breath inflamed her as he murmured, “My gorgeous Gwendolyn.” When his lips found hers again, she wanted Kyle more than ever.

His hand slid down to her sweater. Maybe the hideous nursing bra would pop open…. He touched a ridge of fabric near the clasp. She willed it to unlatch, so he could caress her breasts that ached in a way she never thought would be possible after becoming a mother. His fingers teased, pressing the sweater firmly against her skin, then falling away. If he kept up this pleasant torture, she’d rip off her own clothes.

She tugged at his instead, trying to liberate the undershirt he’d tucked into his jeans, preventing her access his bare flesh. His kisses stopped, but when his mouth found her earlobe, she bit her lip as a squeak escaped.

“You deserve better—”

A piercing cry broke through their gasps and moans.

“Chloe!”

EXCERPT (Spicy)

Jack reached over Mina’s head and tugged out the metal pins. As he placed them on the mantle beside her, one by one, he filled his lungs with the scent of cinnamon and cloves floating off her hair.

She sighed. “You have no idea what I went through for that up-do.”

“I never liked it when you tied your hair.” A few more pulls dislodged the coiled bun. The braid unwound into a long queue that reached her ribcage. Placing one hand above her head on the pillar, he reached around her waist and tugged the elastic free.

She stepped toward him, her head tilting up. Their breaths mingled, her midnight eyes hooded by a dark fan of lowered lashes. “You never seemed to give a damn about how I looked.”

“For an empath, you’re not much good at reading minds. I almost grabbed you by the ponytail one day with every intention of freezing off the godawful scrunchie. Those things went out of style in the nineties.” She remained motionless as he worked his fingers through the silken strands, unraveling the thick mane until it fanned over her back and surrounded her delicate shoulders. He wanted to see her like this, without a single stitch on her. “There. Much better.”

Her brows furrowed. “You never considered kissing me before. What changed?”

Hell if he knew.

EXCERPT – Elena Chavez

Deputy Dale Jackson watched rain course down the windows of the squad car, flow into the gutter to be carried to the arroyo then on to the Rio Grande. The little New Mexico town had sweltered in the heat for weeks, but today, clouds had built up over the mountains and the rain swept through the canyons to drench the dusty streets. He was relieved to see it, but it gave him a sense of isolation, of being left behind, and for a brief minute, left him uncertain he was in the proper place. Should he have stayed in Santa Fe? Was he doing the right thing with his life? He brushed these thoughts away. At midnight, he returned to the Sheriff’s Office, his shift over.

Dale sauntered in, where Agnes Peralta, the mature, brown-haired night secretary, waited to close up and go home.

“Hi, Dale. How about this rain?”

“Good stuff, Agnes,” he answered. “Any messages for me?”

She stood up from the desk and got her purse from a drawer. “Uh-uh. It’s been quiet tonight. The heat has slowed things down, but it will be jumping again once people get some moisture in their bones. Anything to report?”

He shook his head. “No. I’ll see you to your car.”

Agnes locked up, sprinted for her car, and heaved herself in. With a wave to him, she left. Odd that folks waited, anxious for rain, then acted like a drop or two would melt them like sugar.

He got in his car and headed down Main Street toward home. At Apache, he was cut off by a speeding car and became instantly angry. He took off after them, noting the number on the Texas plate, a yellow Ford with a dented left rear fender. If he’d been in the squad car, he could have turned on the lights and siren and scared the hell out of the fool. At the next corner, he pulled in front of the Ford and got out, rose to his full height, and strolled toward the car, his hand on his pistol butt. He never knew what might happen.

He made a circular motion with his other hand, and the woman lowered the window. Young, black hair, dark eyes, fear in her face.

He leaned down. “Going mighty fast, ma’am. You almost hit me.”

The rear seat was empty, and he glanced at her. “Let me see your license and registration, please.”

She rummaged in her purse then in the glove compartment and handed him those. Texas, again. Elena Chavez, age twenty-five, no restrictions, about to expire.    Registration was current.

He gave them back to her. “You have your insurance card?”

She handed him a ragged piece of paper, also about to expire. “Have you been drinking?”

“No, I haven’t,” she murmured, her sultry, smoky voice inviting.

Practiced, he decided and regarded her with suspicion. “I’ll take your word for it. You’re headed for trouble if you don’t slow down.”

She smiled. “I got lost.”

Doubtful. “Are you living around here?”

“On Second Street. In the apartments.”

Tired, Dale worked to contain his irritation. “Well, can you make it the three blocks without tearing up the road?” He didn’t wait for an answer. “I’ll let it go this time, but if I catch you racing around town again, you’re gonna face a big ticket. And get your paperwork in order. Your documents are about to expire.”

Her voice curled around him. “I’m sorry, Officer.”

He regarded her for another moment. White blouse, cut low, lush breasts. “Okay.”

At his car, he shook the rain off his hat, and got in. As he approached the corner, she sped away.

Damn, an outlaw! He had an impulse to chase after her and drag her off to jail. He saw his hands on her, those frightened eyes, her dark hair tumbling, and went on home. He would not forget Elena Chavez. She would turn up again, and he would be on guard.

AUTHOR BIO – Jeanette Collins

author picI spent my career as a painter and sculptor in New York City, and San Francisco. In Washington, DC., I went on painting and did sculpture for six years at The Corcoran School. I have a BFA in Studio Art, which means I know a little about a lot, and a lot about a little.
I came to New Mexico in 1995. In 2004, I began to write full-time. I still paint, but writing fiction has become a joy. I wrote in my youth, but art captured my energies and it took me a long time to get back.
I married David Collins, a physician, who died in 2009. Our daughter, Elizabeth Collins, is an educator.
I write contemporary romance novels, which usually contain an element of mystery. Many are set in a fictional small community near Santa Fe, involving the local citizens, cattle ranchers and horse breeders, and others who wander in. Often a murder must be dealt with, so the impressive Sheriff and his two deputies figure prominently in the stories.
I strive to portray intelligent, introspective and self-aware characters, maintain a solid story line and I include a cheerful amount of sex. There are no billionaires or mega-financiers, and no product placement, just a glimpse of New Mexico life and folks you might like to know, solving their problems.

Publisher: Decadent Publishing

BLURB

Kendra spends her days and nights running a business, sculpting, and leading a Tahitian dance group in Kauai. She can’t squeeze anything else into her life, but she dreams of cowboys. Sexy, hot cowboys in tight jeans, low-tipped Stetsons, and dusty boots. Men who know all about how to please a woman. She enjoys her fantasies, but can’t imagine ever settling down. But one night with one would be so nice. Surely that would get her dreams of a white knight cowboy sweeping her off her feet out of her system.

Because of an accident that Shane believes left him “less of a man,” he doesn’t see a wife and children in his future. Carson, his ranching partner—and sometimes lover—thinks Shane is wrong. Carson refuses to let Shane settle for a life of rodeo bunnies who only want a romp in bed with a bull rider. Shane deserves more than that. He manages to sign Shane up with a matchmaking service to, hopefully, meet another kind of woman, maybe someone who will appreciate Shane for the man he is. Except Madame Evangeline expects both of the cowboys to go on this special one night date. It doesn’t take long for either cowboy to realize that one night with the purple-haired, hip-shaking beauty in Kauai might not be enough….

EXCERPT – PG13 – Cowboy Dreamin’

“I can’t do this!” Kendra moaned and glared at Alexis in the dressing room mirror. She had one boob in a coconut cup and one boob that refused to go in the other bra cup. “I can’t!”

Alexis walked over and calmly pushed Kendra’s hands out of the way. She lifted the problem coconut shell cup and gently guided the uncooperative breast into place. “Situation resolved.”

Tears threatened and Kendra’s stomach churned. “That was only part of what’s wrong.”

She’d been stressed ever since learning about this arranged meeting between her and the two cowboys from Kansas. She’d been dreaming about a fantasy, sexy cowboy for so long. But two at the same time? What if neither of them met her visualization? Would she be soured on all cowboys? Would her fantasies be ruined forever? She didn’t have time in her harried life for more than the occasional fantasy. She needed it.

She exhaled deeply, wincing at the slight movement of the rough shells over her tender breasts. She still hadn’t gotten around to replacing the felt lining and she would pay for that negligence today. “My fantasies are all I have. If this goes wrong…. If they are—”

“This could be far better than those dreams of yours,” Alexis chastised with a frown. “It’s two cowboys.”

Kendra paced away and fluffed out her skirt. “Could be being keywords.”

A tear trickled down her cheek and she dashed it ruthlessly away. Then her shoulders slumped and she mumbled miserably, “I should never have agreed to any of this.” She glowered at Alexis. “You pushed me into it, all of it. Agreeing to spend some kind of night with two cowboys is bad enough. But you accepted this dance show without discussing it with me. And they are supposed to meet me here.”

She paced across the small room again, fluffing the sides of her grass skirt again. “First impressions are a big deal, you know. And here I’ll be shimmying my ass around wearing a pink skirt made of fake grass and bouncing my boobs in a really dumb coconut shell bra.”

To her disgust, Alexis laughed. “They’ll think themselves the luckiest cowboys in the world.”

EXCERPT – Pomegranate

Persephone took a breath. Her mouth was dry and her skin slick with sweat. She was thirsty. So thirsty. Her eyes wouldn’t focus, and her heart was racing.

“You look like you could use this.” A woman in a black mask and unbuttoned tux jacket approached, holding out a bottle of water. The white dress shirt was halfway open, straining against her breasts. Every movement tugged against the soft flesh, hinting at the bounty buried beneath the fabric. Vest unbuttoned over leather pants and kickass boots, she made Persephone’s breath catch in her throat. The woman’s black hair was slicked back into a tight bun, her red lips plump and succulent.

Hands shaking, Persephone took the bottle. “Thank you.” What is wrong with me?”

“This is your first rave, I take it?”

“Yes.” She drank the cool water, each swallow bringing her more clarity. Soon the bottle was drained and dangled empty in her grasp.

“It can be a little much when they turn on the purple wave. Here. Sit.” The masked woman led her to a chair. Large and white, it faced an enormous fireplace. Green fire burned within. Persephone fell into the chair, her dress spilling around her. She watched the green fire dance, marveling at the images unfolding. Her mind was still muzzy but she saw…no….

“Faces…there are faces,” she gasped, trying to push herself up from the chair.

Spotlight: Lola Karns and Lucky Traveler

Amazon coverToday I am welcoming another Decadent Publishing author, Lola Karns, to my blog. She is promoting her newest release with the 1 Night Stand Series, LUCKY TRAVELER. Plus she has a contest, so be sure to read all the way to the end of the post.

Inspiration:

I wrote my 2014 Decadent release BAD TRAVELER as a stand-alone title, but the characters weren’t done with me. Several readers asked me about Keira Jones and Logan Collins. I tried to wrestle them into a novel, but Keira refused to participate. Logan kept pestering me. I discarded plot after plot until he tapped me on the shoulder and said “You know I’m a recovering alcoholic, right?” I understood that he needed a chance to make amends.

Only Madame Eve and Decadent’s 1Night Stand series offered a way to bring these two characters together. I hope you will enjoy their journey.

BLURB

Nearly a year after she found her boyfriend with his hand up someone else’s dress, Midwestern school teacher, Keira Jones, contacts a dating service in a faraway town for a much-needed confidence boost and night of adoration.

Logan Collins doesn’t remember much about the night he screwed up his cousin’s wedding and his life. But with five months of sobriety under his belt and most of his amends made, he celebrates with a 1Night Stand.

When Madame Eve sends these ex-lovers to the same Las Vegas hotel room, the two of them must discover whether good luck or bad luck guides their travels.

EXCERPT

Logan couldn’t do this sitting down. Not after all his failed efforts to reach out to her. A sigh escaped. The coin in his pocket was bigger than that old one-dollar coin his grandma gave him and about the size of a poker chip before the machines all switched to swipe cards. He wrapped his fingers around it. Why purple, he didn’t know. The next was worse. Pink, but he wanted it anyway. The coin brought power held in his palm. He squeezed it almost as tight as his eyelids.

“I’ve been sober one hundred and thirty-one days.”

“So?” Her nonchalance annoyed him.

“I don’t drink anymore.”

She sighed. He paced. This is your chance to move her from the hopeless step nine to eight. A slip of paper in his wallet listed everyone he could think of to whom he needed to make amends. Keira’s name reigned at the top of the list. He looked at her, an angel in blue curled up on the couch. The skirt of her dress slid over her legs. A line of lace midway up her thigh caught Lucky’s attention. For the first time in almost eleven months, the big guy straightened up for a better view. The upper brain clicked in enough to restrain him from doing a fist pump, but his hand twitched anyway.

“Ahem.” She cleared her throat.

“Right.” He had a job to do. Business before pleasure as the saying goes. The apology. “Are you wearing a garter belt?”

After a glance at her legs, she tugged a fold of fabric over the delicious spot. Her squint approximated anger. With those wide, round eyes, she never looked truly pissed off. Except at the wedding and in his recurring nightmare.

“Is it the one I bought?”

“No. That one had bad memories. I threw it out.”

Would she throw him to the trash heap, too?

“Did you wear it to the wedding?”

“You asked me to.” Her voice chilled him.

The warm coin palmed in his fist reminded him of renewed opportunity.

“We can’t move forward until we move back. I made a fool of you. My weakness in the face of alcohol led me to certain inappropriate behaviors that hurt me—”

“Cut the shit. You had your hand up the wrong bridesmaid’s dress.”
