First off, I’d like to say thank you for having me, Starla!
I’d like to tell you a little about Exquisite Quills and an exciting project we’ve completed just in time for the holidays.
What is Exquisite Quills?
Three years ago, an idea come to me out of the blue—build a reader/writer community unlike anything available online, a community to foster camaraderie between readers and writers. Authors often live solitary lives and frankly, it gets lonely sometimes. In this community, authors could interact with readers and build their fan base. Readers could get an insider’s view on just how and why authors create our fictional worlds. And, authors could build peer relationships and find support with others who understand this weird drive to tell stories. I named my idea Exquisite Quills and created a Yahoo group. Then I opened the doors. It was exciting to see how many people wanted the same thing as I. Interested people came from all over the world and we filled up fast. We expanded too. EQ is also on Facebook and other social media.
Promotion is the monster we authors must feed constantly or we quickly fall to inconsequence. That’s a fancy way of saying our needle drops to the bottom of the haystack. But that said, we are bombarded by so many commercials of all sorts that we’ve basically tuned out the noise. People may be blind to it, but promotion is a necessary evil in the author’s world. This gave me another idea! I created the EQ blog. The EQ blog gives fiction authors one steady high-profile place to promote. With six fun memes to follow each week and Saturdays left for guest bloggers, I’m proud to say EQ is quite the little hot spot—more than 101, 000 visitors and counting over the last two years! Yes, I see EQ expanding in the future. Ours is an ever-expanding industry and EQ will grow right along with it.
EQ is a community populated by a terrific bunch of readers and writers. We invite you to join us.
The newest EQ project~
For the last two holiday seasons, EQ authors put out collections of free holiday stories. This year we went big with our first-ever anthology of holiday love stories and recipes!
