Character Interview: Rekkus from Shifting Hearts

Character Interview of Rekkus from The Wiccan Haus 1: Shifting Hearts by Dominique Eastwick

I am so excited to have you here today, Rekkus, sharing a little about yourself and your book. Of course, Dominique, I am happy to have you here, too. Let’s all have a seat and get comfortable.

Rekkus, I want to start visiting with you first. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

As you said, my name is Rekkus. I am head of Security for the Wican Haus, that is all I am permitted to tell you.

No problem. Can you share something with us about your ordinary world before the upheaval to your life?

I prefer not to think about the day my family was killed.

Totally understandable. What upset your ordinary world and brought you into contact/conflict with Dana?

I have no idea what an “ordinary world” is. I am a para everything in our world, which is NOT ordinary.

Okay, interesting. What was your immediate reaction to Dana?

Oh Shit not my mate, not now!

What did you first think of Dana?

I just wanted to pin her to the nearest wall naked.

Wow! Were you annoyed that Dana was getting in the way of you obtaining your goal?

I was worried Dana would never be able to accept me and I am worried that she will be harmed. I do not live in a safe world.

Definitely a potential problem. What were some of the headaches/trials you faced in dealing with Dana?

The biggest is how to tell any human that the man they think you are is also an 800 pound tiger.

Yes, I can see how that would be a trial! Were there any other people who interfered in reaching your goal?

NO one would dare.

Did you feel an immediate attraction to Dana? Or an immediate resistance to her?

Both. I wasn’t ready to be mated, but I wanted her like nothing I had ever felt.

Complicated. Who made the first compromise to attempt peace in your relationship?

I am sure Dana would say it was her. She would tell you I do not compromise well.

I get that feeling, too. When did the heat between you and Dana first start firing up? Did that complicate reaching your goal?

It was immediate. And it only complicated anything because she just came out of a relationship.

What led to the moment when you thought everything was lost between you two?

Two young werewolf pups got out of the rooms on the full moon. I had to shift before she was ready to accept what I was.

Hmmm, I can see that might be a problem. Still, you managed to make things work between you after some ups and downs. Would you go through all of that again?

There is no question. Dana is my soul mate.

Thanks, Rekkus, for sharing your thoughts with us. Now you can sit back and relax while I visit a bit with your author, Dominique.

Dominique, what drives you to be a writer?

If I don’t write the story in my head the characters will yell at me until I do.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories?

Honestly they usually come to me at stop lights. Something will spur an image in my head, might be music, a car, a smell. And bam there are these two people in my head suddenly telling me their story.

Do you have a regular writing process?

No, but I really need to develop one.

Do you have some “words of wisdom” for other writers, especially new writers?

Rules of Writing

  1. Don’t get it Right, Get it Written!
  2. You cannot fix a blank page!
  3. Give yourself permission to write crap. Crap can be fixed…see #2!

What was unique about this particular book?

This is the first story in a shared work series called the Wiccan Haus. It’s kind of like Fantasy Island meets Trublood, I guess would be the best way to describe it.

Was there anything that surprised you while writing this book?

How much I just love the setting and the characters who live there.

Did you have a favorite character in this book?

I really do love Rekkus, he is the classic put out Alpha Male. He is protective and strong. But when it comes to the woman he loves, he can be submissive to her needs and caring. He has such a deep history, too.

Did you have a favorite scene?

I do. I think any scene where the Rowan Siblings are pestering Rekkus is my favorite.

Will there be any sequels to this book?

There is currently one sequel. A Man Worth Fighting For by Sara Daniel. Kate Richards’ book  An Apple Away will be published in June. My next book Sirens Serenade will be published in July. Then there are additions by Nya Raynes and a few other authors in the fall.

Sometimes it takes losing everything to find the one thing you need.

The last of his kind…

Rekkus is the last of the great Black Tiger weres and he is happy to stay that way. Working as security for the Wiccan Haus, a magical spa for inner healing, he has enough danger – and women – to keep him busy. Unfortunately, the Fates are not content with him being comfortable.

Alone and discouraged…

Dana has walked away from all she has known, her fiancé, family, apartment, and job. Now, having a ticket to the Wiccan Haus may be the only way she can move on. But what she finds isn’t what she expects, nor is it what she thought she was looking for.

Meet the unusual residents of the Wiccan Haus. The staff can get a little hairy and not all of the guests eat what’s served in the dining hall. But the proprietors always do what they can to make the resort into a place of healing and peace, using all of their years of practice. At the Haus, where humans and Paras reside side-by-side, everyone in need of the Rowan siblings’ services are welcome.

Rekkus paced in the shallow water. He ran his hand through his hair in a show of frustration. Just as her nerves didn’t think they could take anymore, he said, “Why are you here?”

“Myron told me to come here.”

He stopped pacing glared in the direction of where Myron would be then began to pace again. “Damn her. I spent all day avoiding you and she sends you right to me. You need to leave now.”

“It’s not safe for you here with me. I left you alone last night; if you stay I am not sure I can honor that request a second time.”

“I felt it too,” she blurted out, unable to keep it to herself any longer.

He moved so fast she never saw him actually take a step. All of a sudden she was wrapped in his wet arms, her breast pressed against his chest, making her now damp shirt cling to her body. His eyes searched hers. He must have seen what he was looking for, the desire she felt. Before she could form another thought, his lips were on hers in a feverous need. Demanding she open for him, and no part of her thought for a second to deny him anything. Butterflies churned in her stomach making her shake. She had never felt this; this fire that threatened to engulf her.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, running her fingers through his wet hair and deepened the kiss. His moan was all she needed to gather the nerve and strength to push him forward. She knew what he wanted. Knew what he most desired, because she wanted it to. She wanted him, all of him, every naked inch, right here, next to this lake not a ten minute walk from the Haus. Anyone could stumble across them and she didn’t care. It almost added to the allure of everything. What she needed it to be.

Something more than she ever knew she needed. He was pushing her past her comfort zone forcing her to accept there was a sexy seductress screaming to be let out.

Welcome, Dominique and Rekkus, to my blog! I was delighted to have you visit here today. Best of luck with your sales.

  2. Sara Daniel

Rekkus, you make me want to growl every time I read about you or look at your cover. I bet that pisses you off, doesn’t it? Te he he! Dominique, I will second you on the setting and the cast of characters at the Wiccan Haus. They are so much fun to write about.

  3. Nancy

Great interview, Rekkus and Dom. I had to laugh at Dom’s comment that if she didn’t write stories the characters would keep yelling at her until she does since that’s why my people do.
